History

The Bank was founded in Monaco in 1976 by a consortium of international banking groups and leading Monegasque investors.

Since its inception, the Bank has worked with the authorities to develop Monaco’s financial centre, where it has always been considered a benchmark institution.

CMB started out as a full-service bank with commercial banking activities; but from 1996, following its merger with the Monegasque subsidiary of one of its founding shareholders, Banca Commerciale Italiana, CMB focused its development on private banking and wealth management.

In 2006, CMB strengthened its business by acquiring ABN Amro Monaco, then by the acquisition of Capitalia Monaco in 2008.

Mediobanca acquired a shareholding in CMB in 1989 and full control in 2004. This has supported the  Bank’s growth, and CMB has now established a position as a leading international private bank in Monaco, and conducts its core business with constant reference to its Monegasque origins.
